Georgia College & State University Graduate Student Initiative

The Department of Art at Georgia College has developed an initiative as part of our Visiting Artist Program, and seeks your help in identifying outstanding graduate students in Studio Art, Art History, Museum Studies and related areas. We would like to provide a student with an honorarium of $250.00, an eager audience and a welcoming community of artists and scholars, to speak to our undergraduate Art Majors about the dreams and realities of graduate study. They are welcome to present their work and influences, promote their program, and discuss strategies for success in graduate school as well. The visit to central Georgia may be most affordable to those who could make a day trip out of the event, but potential candidates are not limited to Georgia universities.

Please feel free to use this request as an award for a particular student in your program, as a competitive opportunity, or as an open call for portfolios disseminated freely throughout your department. Though your institution may not offer an MFA or MA degree, you may know a graduate student who would benefit from this chance to share their experiences and add to their resumé.

Our majors are involved in Museum Studies, Art History, Painting, Fibers, Printmaking, Ceramics, Digital/Darkroom Photography and Digital Art studies. Graduate students working in media other than these are also encouraged to apply. Our dynamic art students league ArTank (ART TANK, R-tånque, etc) will provide logistical support for our visitors while here. An overview of our program can be seen at http://www2.gcsu.edu/art

Potential candidates are asked to submit the following, with review of applications beginning January 30, 2010.

*Cover letter

*Curriculum Vitae

*Artist Statement

*CD, slides or website URL of 10 images, with descriptive image list (Art Historians and Museum Studies students may send a sample Thesis Statement in lieu of images and Artist Statement)

*2 letters of reference

*SASE if wishing to have materials returned
