Georgia College & State University Graduate Student Initiative presents a lecture by Michael Marks


The Georgia College & State University Department of Art Graduate Student Initiative presents a lecture by Michael Marks on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 5:00pm in Mayfair Hall room 101.

Michael Marks recently completed an MFA with an emphasis in Painting at Clemson University in South Carolina, where he received various awards in the fields of studio art and art history. Throughout his research, Marks explores a range of topics, including complexity theory, linguistics, and reality television, as he draws connections between past traditions and contemporary practices.

The Georgia College & State University Department of Art Graduate Student Initiative presents a lecture by Laura Lindenberger Wellen on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 5:00pm in Mayfair Hall room 101.

Laura Lindenberger Wellen is a PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Texas at Austin. Her varied research interests include women's and gender studies, early German film, and Latin American artwork. Her dissertation, "Building a Picture: Southern Art Communities and Construction of Regional Identities, 1920-1945" delves into the role that artistic organizations played for different groups in the American South.

The Georgia College & State University Department of Art Graduate Student Initiative presents a lecture by Britney Carroll on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 5:00pm in Mayfair Hall room 101.

Britney Carroll recently completed an MFA degree at Western Carolina University with a thesis exhibition, The Exposing Stitch, that utilizes traditional women's crafts to explore ambivalence about childbearing. Carroll has exhibited her work regionally and utilizes a range of artistic media in the creation of her artwork.

At the end of the 2009 fall semester, GCSU students and faculty enjoyed UGA graduate student Tate Foley's presentation of his work.
